Learning Language and Bilingual Communication by the Internet.

We would like to present the results of a European language product called VoCTE (ICT based Vocational Communication and Training for SMEs in Europe). This was a three-year project financed by the EU-programme Leonardo da Vinci. In the project we have developed a Web platform for teaching active comprehension in bilingual communication. The starting point for our method was to use actively the learners' knowledge about situations in the business world. There are two sides of the product: a technological platform and the developed modules. The technological platform has two sections: one for individual and independent training, another one for authentic communication. As for the developed modules, the users will find two modules for learning active comprehension in English, French and German in bilingual business situations: the first one is for oral communication in situations like making an appointment, asking for information. The second one is primarily for written communication, especially business letters.

I den artikkelen prøver vi å oppsummere tre års arbeid i Vocte-prosjektet. Vi begynner med en beskrivelse av dagens situasjon angående 2. fremmedspråk. Videre presenterer vi sluttproduktet, noen refleksjoner omkring vår metodologi, bruk av IKT og fremtidvisjoner. Artikkelen berører derfor mange felter og problemstillinger. To områder er prioriterte og får mest plass: Den ene er diskusjonen rundt språkforståelse og den andre er bruken av internett til å tilby og gjennomføre undervisningsøkter.
