Background

Wooden boat builder (1990 – 1998), student at UiO (1998 – 2004), researcher at Ullevål University Hospital (2004 – 2006), PhD-student (2006 - 2012). Postdoc at Oslo University Hospital (Radiumhospitalet) (2012 - 2013). Also worked as a farm keeper, teacher (from first grade up to university level), carpenter, in an amusement park, in the abattoir, as a sailing instructor, and as a social worker.

I finished my master studies at University of Oslo in 2004 and proceeded directly to a full time job at Ullevål University hospital as a researcher in bioinformatics. After one and a half year I started my PhD-project at CIGENE, UMB in March 2006.

My master thesis was on search algorithms for finding homolog sub sequences to non-coding RNA genes in genome sequences. I studied Covariance Models developed by Jean Eddy.

At Ullevål University Hospital (now a part of Oslo University Hospital) I developed a program for finding patterns in genome sequences employing a genetic algorithm.

My PhD-project was on mathematical modelling of skin pigmentation. This is of particular interest to understand the function of pigmentation in malignant melanoma. This project was a collaboration between the institutions CIGENE and Dept. of Mathematical Sciences and Technology at Norwegian University of Life Sciences and Department of Tumor Biology, Institute for Cancer Research, The Norwegian Radium Hospital.

2012 -2014 I worked part time as Postdoc at Department of Tumor Biology, Institute for Cancer Research, The Norwegian Radium Hospital and part time as self employed garden worker in possession of a chain saw, a PhD, and a tractor.

I am currently Employed by Høgskolen i Østfold, Halden, Norway as a science teacher at the teacher program.
