A podcast is a web feed of subscribtable audio or video files placed on the Internet. Typical clients are mobile devices like mp3-players and mobile phones and personal computers. Why is podcast technology important in higher education? Two aspects form the basis for our choosing to use this technology in our course: 1) Our aim is to increase time on task in the students work on electromagnetism and build a context for the more cognitive and hard knowledge traditional the only focus on these courses. 2) To try to deal with common misconceptions often associated with the course. We present one possible technical infrastructure for using podcasts and reflect on our preliminary experiences from a case run 2005/2006. The infrastructure outlined is based on an open source server solution freely available and easy to implement in an existing course. This paper review and reflects on the use of podcasts with focus on time on task, context building and misconceptions.
