About the project

The demand for effective and available treatment for patients suffering from depression is high, and increasing. Depressive disorder has been among the top three leading causes of non-fatal health loss and disability for nearly three decades, worldwide. Internet-delivered treatment could both increase treatment accessibility and reduce costs, and studies have showed that the treatment could be as effective as face-to-face treatment.

The first part of this project is to investigate previously conducted studies on guided internet-delivered treatment in a scoping review. The second part of the project is to gather feedback from patients as well as therapist that have used a version of such a treatment program provided by the special healthcare services in some psychiatric centers (DPS) in Norway. A new version of an internet-delivered treatment program is developed, and experiences with the new program will be the subject of a third study.

Theoretical foundation and methods

Mainly qualitative methods based on interviews and possible think-aloud procedures will be used to gather feedback from users of the treatment programs. The data will be analyzed using thematical analysis.

Project period

2020 - 2023

The Aims for the Research Project

The project poses both short- and long-term contributions and target to contribute to increased knowledge on internet-delivered treatment for patients suffering from depression, and how to make treatment programs that meets the users needs.

On a longer term we hope to increase:

  1. knowledge on factors influencing both therapist and patients when treatment is delivered in an online format
  2. the number of patients that get access to effective treatment
