Bio

Karmenlara Ely Seidman har vært ansatt som professor og kunstnerisk leder i skuespill og performance ved Akademi for scenekunst (NTA) ved Høgskolen i Østfold siden 2011. Hun er også professor II ved Musikkonservatoriet, UiT Norges arktiske universitet.

Ely Seidman har en doktorgrad i filosofi (2008) og master (2001) i Performance Studies fra Tisch School of the Arts ved New York University. Hennes fremste kunstneriske utviklings- og forskningsinteresser er innen etikk og teater, performance og kunstnerisk forskning, performancekunst, «embodiment» og relasjonell estetikk i performance, kollektive komposisjonsprosesser, kunstpraksis mellom generasjoner, spill/ritual/lek i skapelsen av teater, gateperformance, «reimagining» kunstinstitusjoner/eksperimentelle læringsformater, transatlantiske fortellinger og arkiver, «performance knowledges» hos urfolk og diasporabefolkninger, og tverrfaglig historiefortelling.

Hun har de siste årene vært engasjert i flere eksternt finansierte og internasjonale kunstneriske utviklingsprosjekter, blant annet «Sea Matters, Performance research pedagogic laboratory» finansiert av UTFORSK/HK-dir (2023–2026), «Spectral collaborations: performative entanglement in the archives of Nordic participation in Transatlantic Slavery» finansiert av Vätenskapsrådet, Sverige (2019–2022), og «Infinite Record: Archive Memory and Performance», finansiert av HK-dir/PKU) (2013–2017). Hun er også medlem av flere internasjonale nettverk og samarbeid. Ely Seidman har en omfattende publiseringsliste og lang erfaring som prosjektleder, keynote/performance lecturer, kurator og dramaturg ved et betydelig antall konferanser, workshops, seminarer og performance arrangementer over hele verden. Hun har nylig avsluttet stillingen som styremedlem for PKU/Hk-dir (2019–2022), og er fast medlem av sensurkomiteer/opponentkomiteer for søkere og studentprosjekter på master- og doktorgradsnivå ved høyere utdanningsinstitusjoner i Norge, Sverige og Trinidad og Tobago. Ely Seidman har lang erfaring fra undervisning og veiledning på masternivå, utviklet flere studieprogram og har vært veileder for flere doktorgradsstudenter i Norge og Sverige.
