Cross-border shopping and regional development in the Svinesund

Cross-border shopping is a big business in the Svinesund region and contributes to its economic growth. On Monday, 13 May 2019, the research group Business Development and Governance invited to a discussion with Svinesundskommittén Strömstad (Sweden) and the Mayor of Halden. The event was part of a field excursion with urban/regional planning students from Lund University (Sweden).

The Svinesund region is one of the most vibrant border regions between Norway and Sweden and an important hub for cross-border trade in Scandinavia. Within the region, cross-border shopping tourism plays an important role.

On Monday, 13 May 2019, the research group invited to a discussion about cross-border shopping tourism and regional economic development with the Mayor of Halden, Svinesundskommittéen Strömstad and HiØ researchers from the Department of Business Administration and Economics.

Svinesundskommittéen presented its organization, tasks and cross-border collaboration projects.

Researchers from Østfold University College presented an ongoing project on cross-border shopping tourism and economic development of the region.

Thor Edqvist, the Mayor of Halden, presented Halden as a cross-border town and discussed with the students. Link to Halden municipality
