  Background: As social robots increasingly integrate into public spaces, comprehending their security implications becomes paramount. This study is conducted amidst the growing use of social robots in public spaces (SRPS), emphasising the necessity for tailored security standards for these unique robotic systems. Methods: In this systematic mapping study (SMS), we meticulously review and analyse existing literature from the Web of Science database, following guidelines by Petersen et al. We employ a structured approach to categorise and synthesise literature on SRPS security aspects, including physical safety, data privacy, cybersecurity, and legal/ethical considerations. Results: Our analysis reveals a significant gap in existing safety standards, originally designed for industrial robots, that need to be revised for SRPS. We propose a thematic framework consolidating essential security guidelines for SRPS, substantiated by evidence from a considerable percentage of the primary studies analysed. Conclusions: The study underscores the urgent need for comprehensive, bespoke security standards and frameworks for SRPS. These standards ensure that SRPS operate securely and ethically, respecting individual rights and public safety, while fostering seamless integration into diverse human-centric environments. This work is poised to enhance public trust and acceptance of these robots, offering significant value to developers, policymakers, and the general public.

  The inability to effectively and systematically identify and measure the damage in bridges will lead to an acceleration and dangerous deterioration of the health state of these structures. To repair and replace the aging and damaged bridge infrastructures, and prevent catastrophic bridge collapse, there is an urgent need to develop reliable, innovative, and efficient approaches to the performance assessment and inspection of bridges. Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs), also knowns as drone, technology has found its way into a number of civilian applications including inspection in the last 20 years, predominantly due to lower cost and tangible scientific improvements. The intent of this paper is to map the current state-of-the-art drone-enabled bridge inspection practices and investigated their associated hazards and risks. This paper will integrate scenario prediction and, assess hazards as well as the social and environmental loss in the case of drone-enabled bridge inspection. Further, this paper will follow rather closely a three-phase process: hazard identification, hazard analysis, and hazard evaluation, all executed with qualitative data and methods by experts of a variety of fields, methodologies for recognition of the impact of cold operating environment on the performance of drone and drone -pilots, creative interpretation of the hazard factors of identifiable problems. The proposed Preliminary Hazard Analysis (PHA) is exemplified via drone-enabled inspection of Håkenby bridge, which is located in the Viken county, in the eastern part of Norway.

  Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV) technology has found its way into a number of civilian applications in the last 20 years, predominantly due to lower cost and tangible scientific improvements. In its application to structural bridge inspection, UAVs provide two main functions. The first, being the most common, detects damage through visual sensors. The 2D imagery data can be used to quickly establish a basic knowledge of the structures condition and is usually the first port of call. The second reconstructs 3D models to provide a permanent record of geometry for each bridge asset, which could be used for navigation and control purposes. However, there are various problems associated with the use of UAVs for bridge inspection, in particular, in cold operating environment, such as Norway. This paper will integrate scenario prediction and, assess hazards as well as the social and environmental loss in the case of UAV-assisted bridge inspection. Further, this paper will follow rather closely a three-phase process: hazard identification, hazard analysis, and hazard evaluation, all executed with qualitative data and methods by experts of a variety of fields, methodologies for recognition of the impact of cold operating environment on the performance of UAVs and UAV-pilots, creative interpretation of the hazard factors of identifiable problems, or even brainstorming about “imaging the unimaginable”.

  Offshore structures are inevitably exposed to flow induced loads and flow-induced vibrations. The effect of these loads will affect the responses of structures, and the combined of two together on the response can lead the structures to induce different phenomena. The effect of damping is to counteract any dynamic response; however, “negative damping” increases the response amplitude. For example, the response amplitude may increase and can lead to structure instabilities, and it might cause damage in the short time. In order to achieve the best possible structural design, it is then relevant to study conditions under which structure instabilities occur. The purpose of this paper is to discuss the conditions under which offshore structures could induce “negative damping” and different structural phenomena that have been caused by “negative damping”. The discussion suggests a damping model with linear and time-varying terms, and shows theoretically that the model is negative under certain wave conditions.

  Abstract- The recovery of infrastructure systems is of significant concern; in order to have effective risk management planning, an accurate prediction of the recovery time is required. A system may have different recovery paths due to the time of the accident, nature of the disruptive event, and surrounding environment, among many other factors. Hence, any model, which is employed to estimate the recovery time, should be able to quantify the effect of such influencing factors. Missing data, inappropriate assumption by analysts, and lack of applicable methodology are some practical challenges for recovery rate analysis. The purpose of this paper is to develop a methodology to address these challenges. It is based on the availability and the nature of historical data; it involves various steps, including categorizing the given data set into three groups: no or missing data set, homogeneous data set, and heterogeneous data set. Here, the Bayesian approach has been employed to handle the no or missing data set group. For the heterogeneous data set group, the proposed methodology suggested the application of covariate based models. Finally, for the homogeneous data set, the methodology employed statistical trend tests, to find the appropriate regression models. The application of the methodology is illustrated by real case studies.

Cold Metal Transfer (CMT) process has been selected as a weld technique in most manufacturing industries, because of its low heat inputs that makes it a promising method for manufacturing application.   Abstract - Lack of availability (reliability and maintainability) data is a key challenge during the design process of a new equipment or a production plant for a new location. Lack of data will also increase the uncertainty associated with design significantly. One solution is to use the collected historical data from similar equipment or results from high stress tests, such as Accelerated Life Test (ALT). However, the available studies mostly, focused on the estimation of the probability of failure of the component. The main purpose of this paper is to propose a framework for quantitative risk estimation for a components under high stress. In this paper, the ALT concepts is used to estimate the probability of the failure and associated consequences.

  Abstract: Production performance analysis plays a significant role in supporting the decision-making process, for managers and engineers dealing with the challenges of the optimization procedure of a system delivery capacity. Operational conditions can influence the production performance of a system drastically, in a short or long term, by affecting the system configuration, reliability, maintainability, maintenance supportability, and functional capacity of its components. Moreover, these impacts can lead to increased business risks and uncertainties. Such a situation demands the successful application of tools and methodologies to minimize the total business risk through an accurate prediction of production performance, addressing the effects of operational conditions. However, there is a lack of practical methodologies, for production performance analysis of systems operating under the time-dependent operational conditions. Hence, the central thrust of this article is to develop a systematic methodology, for the production performance analysis of a system considering the time-dependent operational conditions. In the case study, the results show that the production performance of mining equipment is affected significantly by the operational conditions. These changes occur across the working shifts and due to any changes in the production plan of the mine. The result of the analyses shows that the critical items in the mine is the loader. Hence, in order to increase the production performance of the system, the optimization of the reliability or maintainability of the loader needs to be considered as a priority. Moreover, the wagon drill has a significant excess capacity, which means that, by adding more trucks to the system, the production performance of the system can be improved.

  Abstract: To meet the availability target and reduce system downtime, effective maintenance have a great importance. However, maintenance performance is greatly affected in complex ways by human factors. Hence, to have an effective maintenance operation, these factors needs to be assessed and quantified. To avoid the inadequacies of traditional human error assessment (HEA) approaches, the application of Bayesian Networks (BN) is gaining popularity. The main purpose of this paper is to propose a HEA framework based on the BN for maintenance operation. The proposed framework aids for assessing the effects of human performance influencing factors on the likelihood of human error during maintenance activities. Further, the paper investigates how operational issues must be considered in system failure-rate analysis, maintenance planning, and prediction of human error in pre- and post-maintenance operations. The goal is to assess how performance monitoring and evaluation of human factors can effect better operation and maintenance.

  Safety and Reliability of Complex Engineered Systems contains the Proceedings of the 25th European Safety and Reliability Conference, ESREL 2015, held 7-10 September 2015 in Zurich, Switzerland.
