Supervising on the leading edge of prototyping

We develop our infrastructure working with the best. Learning from Troll Labs and the leading edge of prototyping developing the Entrepreneurial maker-space on campus for our students and researchers.

Matt's story: As part of my PhD, I am connected to NTNU. My supervisor runs a prototyping workshop called Troll Labs. The goal of the Lab is to be at the leading edge of prototyping new and interesting concepts, this often involves collaborating with companies to develop innovative solutions. An example of this has been their project to re-design the bridge of cargo ships, or their project to mimic the human body for medical testing, to high precision heavy lifting devices or design a room that mimics your rate of breathing. Despite the seriousness of the projects, there is always a fun atmosphere of play and exploration when you visit the lab, with the laser cutters, drones, solders and Raspberry Pis constantly in use – for example you can see their lab via a drone fly through (trolllabs.com), which was part of a project to test high precision guidance systems for drones inside buildings.
