Exploring the future of entrepreneurship education

PhD fellow Matthew Lynch explores the future of entrepreneurship education in the ENGAGE project at Stanford.

As part of the ENGAGE project for the future of entrepreneurship education, I took a trip recently to Stanford to see how teaching was taking place at the d.School. The d.School has  reputation for producing new and innovative ideas, through having their students partner up with businesses to work on real world challenges that the businesses are facing. The visit provided insights into the way teaching emphasises experiential learning, through having students build prototypes as part of the problem solving process. Another interesting point of difference was the simplicity of the tools that the students used, although each team had a budget of $8000USD for building their solutions. The students engagement was obvious with classes often starting at 6pm, and weekly beer and pizza sessions being attended by all.
