  Solvation free energy for methane, dissolved both in pure water, water/methane mixture (14 mole % methane) and in aqueous NaCl solution, is calculated using the expanded ensemble molecular dynamics method. Dependencies due to system size and potential model are investigated. Results, using a simple one-site methane model, together with larg e enough system size, are found in very good agreement with experimental data, while calculations using a flexiblefive-site methane model give too high free energies. Also, the solvation energy for 20 different ion pairs of alkali halides is calculated in a systematic study. Very good overall agreement is found for the solvation energies of all the ion pairs. Calculations of solvatio n free energies provide a sensitive test of the used potential models.

  Høgskolenes økonomiske virkelighet de siste årene har forandret seg mye, med økende krav til inntjening. Høgskolenes inntjening baserer seg pr. i dag stort sett på eksterne salgskurs, utleie av ansatte til eksterne bedrifter elle andre former for prosjektarbeid. For å gi høgskolene en ny mulighet til potensiell inntjening har en lovendring funnet sted i 2003,angående patentrettigheter. Disse tilfaller nå arbeidsgiver (høgskolen) på lik linje med næringslivet. Høgskolenes bevissthet innen det å sikre egne rettigheter kan variere mye, noe som også denne rapporten kommer frem til. Vi tar utgangspunkt i at det er studenter og ansatte (fagansatte, stipendiater og teknisk personell) som vil kunne komme på patenterbare resultater i sitt arbeid. Avdeling for ingeniørfag ved Høgskolen i Østfold har en avtale om studentprosjekter. Forholdet rundt immaterielle rettigheter når det gjelder selve resultatet er imidlertid ikke mer belyst enn at disse forholdene måavklares. Ved Høgskolen Stord/Haugesund har praksis vært at resultatene har tilfalt den kommersielle part, bedriften som prosjektet utføres i samarbeid med. Når det gjelder ansatte som leies ut eller på annen måte jobber med eksterne prosjekter står situasjonen omtrent likt. Høgskolen iØstfold har en avtale der det står presisert at forhold rundt publisering skal være avklart, uten at eventuell kommersielle interesser nevnes. Ved Høgskolen Stord/Haugesund har praksis vært at resultatene tilfaller oppdragsgiver for prosjektet, dvs. bedriften. For høgskoleansatte fastsetter loven at eventuell patenterbare resultater tilfaller høgskolen. Dette presiseres i avtalen mellom Høgskolen i Østfold og Dr.grads stipendiater. Avtale av en slik karakter vurderes som hensiktsmessig i bevisstgjøringsprosessen av både høgskole og ansatt, og kan kommetil å sikre høgskolen lisensinntekter i fremtiden. HøgskolenStord/Haugesund har ikke ansatt nye stipendiater etter lovendringen, men det forventes at nye stipendiatstillinger vil bli utlyst kommende høst. Det er imidlertid en overgang for høgskolene å følge opp patenterings prosesser, dekke kostnadene knyttet til disse, velge de rette samarbeidspartene for lisensiering og vedlikeholde patentutgifter. Det er utarbeidet en strategiplan og en tiltaksplan for immaterielle rettigheter ved Høgskolen i Østfold og Høgskolen Stord/Haugesund.

  Brynild Produksjon AS er Norges største produsent av sukkervarer, og ca 65 % av produksjonen går til eksport. Selskapet driver godt og har en meget god soliditet. Produktutvikling hos Brynild omfatter: smak, form (utseende og fasong), innhold og ikke minst emballasje. Bedriften har en egen produktutviklingsavdeling med to ansatte. Mange innspill til produktutvikling kommer fra markedsavdelingen. På grunn av holdbarhetskravene til produktene kan produktutvikling av helt nye produkter ta lang tid –opp til 2 år. Bedriften har høye effektivitetskrav til sin produksjon, og testkjøring av nye produkter må konkurrere om produksjonstid. Det foreligger klare krav om markedspotensialet før testkjøringer og prøveproduksjoner igangsettes. Bedriften har et omfattende målings- og registreringssystem. Denne analyserapporten tar sikte på å gi bedriften et grunnlag som kan benyttes i dens videre arbeide med å forbedre utviklingsfunksjonen. Arbeidet er utført ved hjelp av analyseverktøyet UNIC (Kirkegård etal., 1988). I tillegg til daglig leder er 3 representanter fra bedriften intervjuet.

  Molecular dynamics and Monte Carlo simulations have been used to investigate different aspects of the formation, melting and equilibrium structure of natural gas hydrates. The effects of partial charges on guest-molecules in hydrates of structure Iand II were examined for H2S, CO2 and SO2 using Monte Carlo simulations. The effects of the partial charges due to multipole moments are found to be average net stabilisation if the average positive charges are pointing outwards from the molecular centre. The opposite holds for molecules with a net negative charge pointing outwards from the centre of mass of the guest molecule. The melting of structure I methane clathrate was investigated using NVT molecular dynamics simulations. The equilibrium hydrate crystal was heated carefully from 270 K, in steps of 5 K, until a well-defined phase instability appears. At a density of 0.92 g cm-3, the upper bound for the mechanical stability of the methane hydrate lattice over a timescale of 11 nanosecondsis 330 K. After the structure breaks down, the system phase separates into two phases, a methane-rich liquid which adopts the natural spherical cluster shape in zero gravity, and a water-rich phase in which methane has very low solubility. The possible effects of PVP (poly(N-vinylpyrrolidone)) on properties of liquid and water in clathrate hydrate were investigated using NVT molecular dynamics simulations. The double bonded oxygen in the PVP monomer N-(1-metylpropyl)-pyrrolidone forms hydrogen bonds with the hydrogens in liquid water. The simulations indicate that the PVP monomer tends to orient perpendicular to the hydrate surface and that a combination of the PVP structure and the hydrogen bond network in the hydrate surface facilitates simultaneous hydrogen bonding between the oxygen in PVP and two water molecules on the hydrate surface. Solvation free energy for methane, dissolved both in pure water, water/methane mixture (14 mol % methane) and in aqueous NaCl solution (0.45 M and 1.9M), was calculated using the expanded ensemble molecular dynamics method. Dependencies due to system size and potential model were investigated. The results, using a simple one-site methane model together with large enough system size, are found to be invery good agreement with experimental data. Corresponding calculations using a flexible five-site methane model resulted in free energies that were too high. The work involved in dissolution of methane in the electrolyte solution was almost equally expensive as for dissolution in pure water. Dissolution of methane in the methane solution, on the other hand, was much more expensive compared to the case with pure water.
