Academic interests
About myself :
I am working as Full Professor at Østfold University College.
I have more than 18 years of teaching and research experience (after obtaining a PhD), with supervision of Thesis at Master's and PhD level. Both teaching and research fields have been aligned in the area of power systems, mainly with renewable resources integration, dynamic analysis and control, applications of ICT, and smart grid.
During my academic career, I have been solely involved in the research activities/supervision, including externally funded projects in the area of distributed generation; modeling of renewable energy systems, integration of renewable resources like wind, photo-voltaic, hydro power, fuel cell and energy storage systems, their control strategies, islanding detection, tools/algorithms for wide area monitoring of smart grid, protection and control applications, etc.
Apart from above, my research area is also focused in “ Smart grid ”, which is basically a multi-disciplinary requiring applicant to have knowledge and background from two different fields; (i) Information security and Communication technology and (ii) power/energy system . The future professionals are expected to have research output with both domains. This is due to the fact that the conventional power system is at the transition stage into smart grid, requiring applications of information and communication technology.
I can document my competence in the area of power system (core), micro grid, renewable energy system integration, on the basis of teaching experience, development of teaching relevant courses, publications in highly reputed journals and externally funded projects .
Present Research Supervision (PhD):
I am co-supervising 4 students from MNNIT Allahabad (India), who were previously enrolled with me, when I left the said Institute.
Involvement in Research Projects: PERSIST, co-funded by the EU. Leading WP3 from Norway side.

Courses taught: Østfold University College
- Masters level: Wind, Solar, Hydro Power Integration in Power System, Renewable Energy, Power System Dynamic and Control
- Bachelors level: High Voltage Technology and Relay Protection, Electrical Installations and Machines
Background
Briefly about education :
I have my Bachelor degree (1996) in Electrical Engineering, Masters (1999) in Energy Management and PhD Thesis is on title "Integrated Control of Small Hydro Power Plants" in 2006. All my education degrees are from Universities based in India.
My PhD Thesis work is mainly focused on system identification (as time series analysis) of hydro turbine dynamics using neural network and fuzzy techniques. Also, linear quadratic controller, adaptive control approach and predictive control have been applied to regulate the output power of turbine-generator set according to load demand.
I have attended the 5 days (8 hours daily) pedagogic course on the title "Skill based teaching and learning" organized by the National Institute of Technical Teachers' Training and Research Bhopal (India). The course included series of Tasks and Quizzes to be attended for successful completion. Some Tasks were performed on (i) Domains of Learning, (ii) Problem based Learning and Skill, (iii) Skill Assessment, (iv) Achievement Test. Similarly Quizzes were on included on the topic (i) Learning and Learning Theories, (ii) Project based Learning and Instructional Methods.
Briefly about previous work experience :
I started my teaching career (before having earned a PhD degree) in 1999 and upto 2003, at RBIT (Bhutan), I was involved in teaching at Bachelors level of courses. After having obtained a PhD (in 2006), my teaching involved at both Bachelors and Masters level courses. From June 2006 onwards, I started working at Motilal Nehru National Institute of Technology (Allahabad, India) as a Lecturer, Assistant Professor (2009-12), Associate Professor (2012-2018) and Professor (2018-2021). In between these years, I also worked as Marie Curie Experienced Researcher at Aalto University, Finland (2012-13: 14 months) and as Associate professor at the University of Agder, Norway (2017-18: 9 months).
I have been involved in teaching Theory courses in wide fields of Electrical Engineering. Teaching approach applied includes, Lecturing, Tutorial and Laboratory. The responsibility as Course Instructor includes to conduct lecture, tutorial (exercise) and as well as laboratory classes. Tutorial sheets/Assignments are distributed to each class for the courses taken in the semester and had been evaluated (Alphabet grade awarded). Also, involved in setting of question papers for Mid-semester examination, Quiz and End-semester examination, evaluation of answer sheets and award of grade to students, including entering of Grade list on portal (website).
I have supervised 11 PhD Thesis (awarded), out of which for 5 numbers of Thesis, I have been as sole/main supervisor and for remaining 6 numbers as Co-Supervisor.
