About the project

This is a master thesis project carried out this spring that is an LCA case study on Mooring solutions in offshore FPSO projects for the client SEA SYSTEMS AS.

The main objective of the master project is to identify the major environmental impacts involved in the cradle-to-gate life cycle phases of the mooring device used in the project named MARLIM II. Apart from the identification of possible environmental impacts, the thesis also experiments to find out the product optimization methods through reduced material consumption targeting the UN SDGs.

About the client

Sea Systems AS is a mooring equipment manufacturer and supplier located in Vest by, Oslo. The company was established in 1953 and now supplies mooring solutions for three segments Oil & Gas, Floating wind farms and Fish farming. The organization has production facilities in different EU countries like Bosnia and Estonia and has supplied mooring solutions for different projects in Oil and gas offshore industry. There has been an interest communicated from the company in evaluating the environmental impacts of their products for preparing the sustainability targets. Hence this has been considered a great opportunity for me to carry out my master’s thesis at the company and to experiment with my knowledge gained in the master’s program GET taking company product as a case study with the most effective sustainability LCA software SIMA PRO.
