CLIL - Content and Language Integrated Learning

In CLIL, a foreign language is used as a tool in the teaching of a non-language subject, with the dual-focused aim of learning both content and the target language.

Reading is the basic skill in CLIL and research has shown that the reading activities, strategies and materials used in CLIL courses contribute to improved reading skills and proficiency in English and that the CLIL students are better able to adjust their reading strategies to reading purpose.

As a supplement to ordinary EFL teaching, CLIL offers more opportunities for practicing English and for extending the knowledge of the subject specific vocabulary of other non-linguistic subjects. The integration of content and language teaching also allows for cross-curricular projects and a greater degree of differentiation.
