Research ethics guidelines for researchers at HiØ

  1. Researchers, project staff, students and doctoral research fellows have an independent responsibility to act with due diligence in order to ensure that all research takes place in accordance with generally recognised ethical principles. This applies to research preparation, research reports and other research-related activities such as data collection, analyses, conclusions, publication, data protection and relationships with clients.
  2. Researchers must respect the contributions of other researchers and students and follow authorship and collaboration standards. Individual responsibilities should be clarified as early as possible in the process and in conjunction with all involved parties.
  3. If a researcher is unsure whether the research work may lead to a breach of ethical guidelines, this must be discussed with the Leadership Team and/or the research administration.
  4. Supervisors at all degree levels of study have a specific responsibility to convey and assess research ethics aspects of students’ and doctoral research fellows’ work.
  5. Researchers have an independent responsibility to meet information security requirements with regard to confidentiality, integrity and accessibility during personal data processing.
  6. The project manager is responsible for ensuring that project research is carried out in accordance with good research ethics and recognised scientific principles.
  7. All co-authors of a publication must ensure that the work is ethically sound.
  8. When a researcher becomes aware of certain aspects of their work that they believe are in breach of ethical principles, or that are in conflict with what they believe to be their social responsibility, the researcher must notify the Leadership Team and/or the research administration.
