Institutional guidelines for Østfold University College (HiØ)

1. HiØ shall facilitate in order to ensure that research takes place in accordance with recognised research ethics norms developed by The Norwegian National Research Ethics Committees

2. Østfold University College Board is primarily responsible for work relating to research ethics. The responsibility is delegated to the university college’s Leadership Team that develops and follows up on institutional policy. 

3. HiØ’s Leadership Team is responsible for: 

a. ensuring that everyone conducting or participating in research is familiar with recognised research ethics norms. 

b. the necessary training of candidates and employees in recognised research ethics norms. 

c. appointing a research ethics committee and establishing guidelines regarding the processing of research ethics cases. 

4. The dean shall contribute to the thematisation of research ethics in teaching and supervision at all degree levels of study. 

5. The dean is responsible for providing advice on research ethics issues and that the applicable regulations are complied with. Deans may request access to ongoing research in order to assess whether considerations regarding research ethics have been taken into account. 

6. The dean must ensure that departmental research meets information security requirements with regard to confidentiality, integrity and accessibility during personal data processing. 

7. If there is a suspicion of misconduct or breaches of good scientific practice, the university college’s research ethics committee will deal with the case. See separate guidelines for the research ethics committee. 

8. HiØ’s Leadership Team may, within the framework of the Research Ethics Act, revise these guidelines as is necessary.
