Ostfold University College's Publishing Fund

The University College has an internal publication fund that is administered by the library. You can apply for funding to cover your publication fees for articles, book chapters and monographs and you apply by using a separate application form (norwegian) (english) for this.

Author Fees for Open Access Publications

Based on the national consortium agreements on open access publishing with various major academic publishers, all researchers at Ostfold University College (OUC) can publish articles in journals operated by these organizations as Gold Open Access without paying publishing fees. This is selected when an article manuscript is submitted to the publisher in question, and in these cases you do not need to apply for publishing support.

If you wish to publish with another publisher and will need support in paying the publication fees, you can apply to the Høgskolen's publication fund. You must then familiarize yourself with and comply with these guidelines:

  1. You can apply for funding to pay publication fees for scientific articles and anthology chapters (hereinafter referred to as publications) that are published Open Access.
  2. Funding support is available to cover publication fees up to 50 000 kr. This is also the maximal amount of support given even if funding support is sought for to several chapters in the same anthology. Any excess amount must be covered by an another body, such as the institution or the faculty where the author belongs.
  3. Those who apply for funding must be the corresponding author for the publication. Institutional affiliation must be stated in the publication. If the corresponding author is not an employee of Ostfold University College (OUC), but researchers at OUC have been key contributors to significant parts of the work, it is still nevertheless possible to apply for publication funding. In this case, these contributions must be described in an appendix from the OUC employee's application.
  4. Funding is not provided to cover expenses for color printing, extra illustrations and other similar types of costs. The exception is art-related publications.
  5. The publication channels (journal, series, publisher) must be approved at levels 1 or 2 in the Channel Register.
  6. The publication must be peer-reviewed and qualify for NVI-reporting.
  7. The applicant must be an employee, a PhD fellow or master's student at Ostfold University College. Master's students must include a written confirmation from their supervisors.
  8. The publication must be registered in Cristin as well as be archived in the University College's knowledge archive, Brage.
  9. The applications are processed on an ongoing basis. The entire publication expense is waived.

Specific for anthologies and monographs

The Publishing Fund can support the author payments for anthologies and monographs that are published with open access. It is not unusual that such author payments exceed the Publishing Fund's upper limit for support for a single publication (an anthology where an author or a group of authors from Ostfold University College has/have contributed to several chapters that are considered as a single publication).

If you are an editor for an anthology or author of a monograph and have received a letter of intent for publication that outlines the upcoming costs related to the production of an open access publication, and these exceed the Publication Fund's upper limits for support for a single contribution, it will be necessary to secure funds to cover the remaining amount. In many cases the institution or faculty, where the author is employed, can contribute towards this, but this must be clarified prior to applying for support from the Publication Fund.

When the application is nearing production, one can apply to the Publication Fund. If the author's payment exceeds 50 000 kr, it is necessary to include a confirmation that the other party will be covering the remaining amount in the expected invoice from the publisher.

Applies to all applications

The accounting department is responsible for processing all invoices and payments. Authors should not pay the invoices from the publishers themselves. If this should nevertheless happen, can the payment be refunded.

The guidelines can be changed by the University College's leadership without notice, but any changes in guidelines will not have retroactive effect on applications that have already been processed.

Please contact Kristian Sandbekk Norsted if you have any questions about the publishing fund.
