CRIStin - what's it all about?

Why is it important?

Cristin (Current research information system in Norway) is a national service with a total overview of Norwegian research and publications. The system has following the functions:

• collect information about Norwegian research and make it available to other users

• simplify administrative tasks by facilitating the reuse of research information

• follow up the reporting of scientific publications to the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Health and Care Services (NVI reporting)

For you as a researcher it is important to register your publications – especially publications in the categories academic monographs, anthologies and academic articles (which will be included in the annual reporting), but Crisitn gives you an opportunity to share/disseminate all your research activities.

What MUST be registered?

Your institution will ask you to register academic articles, monographs and academic articles in anthologies, because these three types of publications are included in the performance-based budgeting model (RBO model) and in the reporting to the Ministry of Education and Research.

Within the deadline (usually the beginning of next year) all researchers have to check their publication lists in Cristin and make sure everything is correct and complete.

What CAN be registered?

The main purpose of Cristin is to provide an overview of what is happening in Norwegian research, but at HiØ, Cristin is also used as a basis for payout for dissemination activity in the individual department's allocation in the budget.

Here is an important web site to read (in Norwegian): https://www.hiof.no/for-ansatte/arbeidsstotte/forskningsstotte/publisering/etter-publisering/formidlingskomponenten-i-budsjettet/

How much points does your publication "generate"?

Data from Cristin will be used to calculate points for scientific publications. Points for scientific articles are calculated based on combination of:

  • level for publishing channel (journal / publisher). Level 1 and 2 (nivå 1, nivå 2). When the channel is at level 1 or 2, this means that they are approved, where level 2 are channels with higher international prestige.
  • publication form (book, article in ISSN publication, article in ISBN publication)
