The master programme in Applied Computer Science is available full-time and part-time (respectively 2 and 3-4 years). This is the part-time programme. Go to the full-time programme for more information about how to finish the programme in 2 years .
In this programme, you will choose one of the following specialisations when applying for the program:
- Interaction Design
- Artificial Intelligence
- Internet of Things
- Cyber Security
A specialisation is only offered if at least five students are admitted to the specialisation
In the first four semesters, you are mainly taking courses in your selected specialisation together with an interdisciplinary project. In the last two-four semesters, you are doing your master’s thesis where you get the opportunity to specialise and work on an exciting project together with our researchers and collaborators.
You may also get the opportunity to participate in the department´s research projects, as well as to carry out a business project with a relevant IT company.

Sivilingeniør
Students that are admitted to the specialisation in Internet of Things (IoT) will have the right to use the protected title sivilingeniør after graduation. The title will be stated in your diploma.
Lab facilities
The department has several lab facilities that are used in the master courses:
- Makerspace
- Digital Fabrication Lab
- VR Lab
- CPS Lab
- Robotics Lab
- Machine Learning Cluster
- Data Security Lab
These labs are used directly in teaching activities, and to carry out compulsory requirements and student projects. The labs are available for all students and employees 24 hours, 7 days a week.
HiØs campuses
HiØ has campuses both in Fredrikstad and Halden. Most of the courses in this study program are taught on campus Halden, but some elective courses may taught on campus Fredrikstad.
