Knowledge
The student:
Has an overview of and knowledge about literary trends and genres in contemporary Spanish and Latin American literature.
Is familiar with key concepts in literary analysis.
Is acquainted with some literary theories and methods relevant for interpreting selected literary works.
Skills
The student can:
Understand and account for the content of contemporary Spanish and Latin American literary works and place them in a social and historical context.
Apply relevant tools to analyze and interpret texts in various genres (literature, non-fiction, music, and film).
Recognize and explain characteristics of selected genres within contemporary Spanish and Latin American film and literature.
General Competence
The student:
Can gather information from various sources and apply it in a reflective and critical manner in their own presentations about the various literary works.
Has general competence in conveying the form and content of contemporary Spanish-language literary works.
Content
Throughout the course, students will read and analyze modern Spanish-language texts. These texts are drawn from various literary genres, non-fiction, music, film, internet blogs, and/or other popular genres. Central literary movements in modern Spanish and Latin American literature are covered, with a focus on contemporary literature.
Forms of teaching and learning
The teaching is conducted through online meetings. The university's learning platform is used for distributing course materials, relevant information, sources, and assignment submissions. Students familiarize themselves with and read the literature in advance. This literature is then reviewed and discussed during online meetings. Films are watched, and music is listened to, followed by discussions in smaller groups and plenary sessions. Active student participation is encouraged.
Workload
Approximately. 280 hours.
Coursework requirements - conditions for taking the exam
- One individual prepared presentation on a literary theme. The student prepares the presentation in the form of an audio recording of approximately 10 minutes, which is submitted on the learning platform by the specified deadline.
Required coursework must be approved before the student can present themselves for examination.
Examination
Individual written exam at campus Halden, 5 hours.
Permitted aids: Spanish-Spanish, Norwegian-Spanish, and Spanish-Norwegian dictionaries.
Grading scale A - F.
The written exam is conducted as a digital exam.
As a general rule, the written exam is held on campus. It is possible to apply through a specific form to take the written exam at another approved location, provided that factors such as time difference and the ability for necessary communication with an external examination site allow for it.
