Recommended requirements

Prerequisites equivalent to French level II from high school are highly recommended.

Knowledge

The student

  • has knowledge of text structures and linguistic devices used in the writing process
  • is familiar with and has knowledge of the use of textual expressions in French (such as literature, non-fiction, comics, songs, film, various textual expressions on the internet, etc.)
  • has knowledge of French literary theory and analysis

 

Skills

The student

  • can read French texts in various genres and employ different interpretation and reading strategies
  • can produce various types of texts in French
  • can use analytical tools on literary texts and place texts in a literary-historical context
  • can compare central aspects of daily life and traditions in French culture with Norwegian culture

 

General Competence

The student

  • can use reference works and sources in an independent and reflective manner, and find relevant material in various media and through the use of ICT
  • can use current digital tools in working with textual expressions

Content

The students will gain insight into French culture and Francophonie, as well as their own and others' ways of thinking through the study of French-language texts. They will also receive an introduction to various genres from a diachronic and theoretical perspective, becoming familiar with the characteristics and stylistic devices of each genre. Furthermore, students will be trained in critical thinking and analyzing various texts.

Forms of teaching and learning

The teaching and guidance are provided through online meetings via digital collaboration tools. The learning platform Canvas is used for distributing foundational documents, central study materials, assignments, and other relevant information about the subject. Self-study is included in the learning methods.

Workload

Approximately. 280 hours

Coursework requirements - conditions for taking the exam

One individual written submission (approximately 1000 words).

Required coursework must be approved before the student can sit for the exam.

Examination

Individual written digital home examination.

Duration: 4 hours.

All aids are allowed, except communication and collaboration with others on the answers.

Grading scale: A-F.

Examiners

External and internal examiner or two internal examiners.
