Knowledge

The student

  • has advanced knowledge of linguistic variation in general and of language variation in the target language countries in particular, and has the necessary conceptual apparatus for describing this.
  • is familiar with various approaches to working with linguistic variation in language learning and has gained an understanding of the role aspects of linguistic variation can play in language teaching at different levels, particularly in relation to the linguistic reality existing in the target language areas.

 

Skills

The student

  • can utilize knowledge of linguistic variation in such a way as to develop, present, and implement well-founded teaching plans directed towards various aspects of linguistic variation, integrating this naturally into their language teaching.

 

General Competence

The student

  • can apply methods and digital skills to collaborate on the acquisition and presentation of academic and didactic knowledge and the use of such a foundation in practice.

Content

The course deals with linguistic variation in general and language variation in the target language areas in particular and how aspects of this are dealt with in language teaching. Standard linguistic, geographical and social variation are examined. In addition, different aspects of multilingualism may be addressed.

Forms of teaching and learning

Throughout the semester, students collaborate in work groups, using collaborative writing tools to address up to four issues in the form of a corresponding number of smaller academic papers. The chosen collaborative writing tool is of a nature that allows for discussion among students directly related to the text, and highlights each student's contribution to the text's composition.

Approx. 280 hours.

No work requirements in the course.

Examination

Individual process assessment

The individual process assessment is based on contributions to the preparation of written presentations and related activities. Further clarification in the semester plan.

Grading scale: A-F.

Examiners

Two internal examiners or one internal and one external examiner.

Conditions for resit/rescheduled exams

If the student does not pass the exam, the contributions can be processed once. If the grade is improved, the course must be retaken.

Course evaluation

Feedback from our students is essential for us to be able to offer the best possible courses and study programmes. The course is evaluated each semester through ongoing and final evaluations.

The results are processed by the Head of studies in dialog with student representatives and subject teachers. The programme committee follows up on student evaluations at the department.
