Knowledge:

The student:

  • Has insight into the cultural uniqueness as well as various cultural expressions in recent times and in today's society within the target language area.
  • Is familiar with demographic movements and the cultural influence and impact they have when encountering other societies and cultures.
  • Has a good understanding of relevant academic literature.

 

Skills:

The student can:

  • Apply appropriate strategies and relevant analytical tools in their approach to and interpretation of multimedia texts and films.
  • Gather and apply relevant academic literature to discuss current issues.
  • Account for and reflect on cultural uniqueness as well as various cultural expressions within the target language area.
  • Place cultural expressions within a broader historical and societal context.
  • Reflect on their own analyses and presentations and adjust them in collaboration with other students and after guidance.

 

General Competence:

The student has increased understanding of and can convey the diversity in Spanish-speaking culture.

Content

In the teaching, certain cultural and societal trends in Spanish-speaking areas in recent years are highlighted, such as:

  • Identity and identity formation
  • Cultural encounters and cultural diversity/tensions in a global, national, and/or regional perspective
  • Migration within Spain and Latin America in recent times, as well as from Spanish-speaking countries to other countries in Europe and the American continent

The teaching and students' own work provide opportunities for in-depth exploration of specific works/topics. The students further develop their skills in analyzing and contextualizing texts and other cultural expressions by contributing their own insights for discussion in the group, considering relevant academic literature.

Forms of teaching and learning

The teaching is conducted online and in Spanish. Students can attend lectures in real-time, discuss academic literature, and collaborate on interpretation and analysis tasks using digital tools.

Participation in the teaching is not mandatory, but it is highly beneficial to attend regularly. It is assumed that the students work independently with texts and films related to the subject and familiarize themselves with the course material posted on the learning platform. The students are encouraged to use digital tools to discuss academic questions. It is expected that the students contribute actively, including to strengthen their communication and presentation skills.

Workload

Approximately. 280 hours.

Coursework requirements - conditions for taking the exam

An individual written assignment (1200-1500 words) on a topic chosen in consultation with the instructor. The submission should have an analytical approach, adhere to specified genre requirements, and include clear references to utilized sources.

Required coursework must be approved before the student can present themselves for examination.

Examination

Individual oral examination, duration approximately 30 minutes.

No aids allowed. All topics covered in the course may be subject to assessment.

Grading scale A-F.

The oral examination is conducted online via the learning platform.

Examiners

External and internal examiner or two internal examiners.
