Recommended requirements

Prerequisites knowledge equivalent to Spanish level II from high school is recommended.

The student's learning outcomes after completing the course

Knowledge

The student:

  • Has knowledge of the Spanish word classes and how they differ from Norwegian.

  • Has knowledge of the structure and inflectional patterns of words in Spanish.

  • Has knowledge of the language's phrase structure and syntax in simple sentences.

  • Is familiar with parts of the Spanish verbal system and its usage.

  • Is acquainted with concepts in Spanish morphology and syntax.

 

Skills

The student can:

  • Assign words to the correct word class and describe the structure, inflectional patterns, and syntactic functions of words in Spanish.

  • Analyze phrases and simple sentences.

  • Evaluate texts from a grammatical perspective and identify agreement errors.

  • Utilize concepts to explain the use of different verb tenses in Spanish.

  • Produce oral and written texts on specific grammatical topics.

  • Navigate to relevant literature and use it to develop their own knowledge.

 

General Competence

The student can:

  • Independently acquire linguistic competence and apply it.

  • Independently acquire relevant subject matter alone or in collaboration with others.

  • Communicate about grammatical topics.

  • Maintain and further develop their linguistic competence in Spanish.

Content

The students will acquire basic knowledge of the grammatical system in Spanish. They will learn and be able to explain grammatical structures and key features of the language. Students will enhance their ability to critically evaluate their own and others' use of the Spanish language. They will develop their knowledge and skills in understanding the language in use and analyzing it morphologically and syntactically.

Forms of teaching and learning

The course is structured with lectures where students are expected to actively engage in discussions and conversations about the subject matter, as well as in developing their own and others' linguistic skills and insights. Individual and small group assignments are also planned. The primary language of instruction will be Spanish. It is also expected that students allocate time for pre- and post-lecture work.

Course content will be available on a digital learning platform and through online teaching and guidance.

Self-study is a crucial part of students' work, and it is therefore assumed that students independently acquire a significant portion of the course material. This includes forming study groups and working independently with authentic texts, such as reading Spanish-language newspapers and watching Spanish-language programs on TV or the internet.

Workload

Approximately. 280 hours.

Coursework requirements - conditions for taking the exam

  • One individual written assignment must be submitted by the specified deadline.

Required coursework must be approved before the student can sit for the exam.

Examination

Individual digital written examination at campus in Halden, 4 hours.

Permitted aid: Spanish-Spanish dictionary.

Grading scale: A-F.

The written exam is conducted as a digital exam.

As a general rule, the written exam is held on campus. It is possible to apply through a specific form to take the written exam at another approved location, provided that factors such as time difference and the ability for necessary communication with an external examination site allow for it.
