The student's learning outcomes after completing the course

Knowledge

The student

  • can explain how projects are run and how progression is ensured

  • can give an account of the different phases in a development project and of their importance

  • has sound knowledge of the project's disciplinary topics

Skills

The student can

  • prepare a project plan and a work plan

  • prepare a pilot project report and a final report

  • conduct follow-up meetings with the client

General competence

The student

  • knows about conducting a project

  • can present the project to specialists and other stakeholders

Content

The project content must essentially be based on the skills and knowledge the students have gained so far in the bachelor programme, but will also require students to learn new methods and tools for solving the assignment.

A bachelor project may be conducted internally or externally.

Students will also learn about project work, project leadership and management, as well as about reporting and documentation.

Forms of teaching and learning

Lectures, project implementation and group work.

If students from international partners attend courses, the lectures will be conducted in English.

Workload

Each student is expected to work a minimum of 500 hours during the bachelor project.

Coursework requirements - conditions for taking the exam

  • Submit a pre-project report within the deadline

  • Submit the first version of the main report within the deadline

  • Submit the second version of the main report within the deadline

  • Submit brochure content for the EXPO exhibition within the deadline

Coursework requirements must be accepted to qualify for the exam.

Examination

Group project and oral exam in group

The assessment is based on two components: 

  1. Project in groups. It is given a tentative individual grade of the bachlor thesis.  This  grade can be adjusted up to two stages at the oral exam. 

  2. Oral exam and EXPO in groups.  Oral examination consists of presentation of the bachelor thesis and follow-up questions. Duration: 20 minutes.   EXPO consists of a stand that needs to be staffed for up to 3 days.

An overall grade is given. Grading scale A-F. 

Plagiarism control/ cheating:

Bachelor's theses is subject to electronic plagiarism control. Exam papers that are partly or entirely identical will not be approved and will be regarded as cheating. For further information please see Exam regulations for Østfold University College.

External and internal examiner.

Conditions for resit/rescheduled exams

In the case of resit exams or rescheduled exams, new groups must be formed and the project content agreed with the main project coordinator.

Course evaluation

This course is evaluated by a

  • Mid-term evaluation (compulsory)

The responsible for the course compiles a report based on the feedback from the students and his/her own experience with the course. The report is discussed by the study quality committee of the Department of Computer Sciences and Communication.
