Content

The course is integrated with IRI37519 Bachelor thesis with theory of science and methodology (30 ECTS).

In the course, students will work in teams together with students taking the IRI37519 in a professionally relevant and interdisciplinary problem for a local, regional, or international client. The project plan and the problem must be approved by the academic supervisor.

The work is organized as a project with the client. Teams work independently under supervision. It is expected that the student works with both a sufficient project scope (equivalent to 10 credits in workload) and a time horizon from 1 January to approx. June 5.

Forms of teaching and learning

The bachelor thesis is carried out as problem-based learning with a high degree of student active learning.

Students work in a project with a collaborating company / enterprise / project. The project period ends with an EXPO exhibition where the project results are presented to examiners and the public.

Coursework requirements - conditions for taking the exam

  • Individual midterm report written in accordance with the department's guideline

  • Reflection log documenting work and contributions to the project

Examination

Two components are included in the final assessment.

1. The EXPO exhibition and oral presentation of about 15-20 minutes in teams. All group members must contribute to the exhibition and presentation.

2. Individual oral exam. Approximately 30 minutes duration

One overall grade is set for the two components included in the assessment.

Plagiarism control / cheating: Reports are checked electronically for plagiarism. Completely or partially identical answers are to be regarded as attempted cheating. See also regulations on examinations and the right to study at Østfold University College.

Examiners

Supervisor and one external examiner.

Conditions for resit/rescheduled exams

If the student fails the exam, he/she can re-take this exam maximum two more times. A re-take will be arranged in August the following semester.

Course evaluation

The course will be evaluated by a standardized electronic form.
