Elective course for bachelor's studies in Innovation and project management, 5. semester.

Admission is regulated according to given criteria. The students themselves must obtain the relevant internship/traineeship agreement and submit a motivation letter and formal competences for taking the course. A comprehensive assessment will be made based on study progress, grades, letter from the company, motivation letter and CV.

The letter of motivation must provide a professional argument for the choice of company and the relevance of work tasks.

The letter from the company must state work tasks, value added for the company and learning goals for the student, progress plan, and contact person in the company.

A maximum of 10 students can take the course in autumn 2023.

Passed 120 ECTS with grade average C or above.

Knowledge

The student has:

  • knowledge of how the company in question is organized and carries out its practical tasks
  • knowledge of how the company's research or development work is organized and carried out

Skills

The student can:

  • use own expertise towards relevant operational tasks and/or development work
  • develop knowledge and raise own and the company's competence through reflection in and about concrete tasks and/or projects

General competence

The student can:

  • show professionally relevant work experience
  • collaborate with the supervisor and coordinator/mentor in the company
  • give an account of key academic or professional ethical issues

Content

The intention of the internship course is to give students the opportunity to combine business experience with academic studies in a systematic way in order to increase the learning outcomes from both situations. The students get the opportunity to use theories and models they to solve real life work tasks in a company, and thus experience the relevance of their academic knowledge. At the same time, they get the opportunity to reflect on their work experiences in a systematic way, and are thus more prepared for the professional work life that follows after their studies. The companies get access to up-to-date academic knowledge, workforce and the opportunity to participate in the development of knowledge by incorporating its needs for qualified knowledge into the design of internship schemes for its internships. The internship must be within the field of study the study plan otherwise covers. Development oriented work is wanted as an element of the practice. The academic supervisor must approve the content and other criteria for the internship. An written agreement will be made between HiØ, student and company. 

Forms of teaching and learning

Position and work tasks are defined in collaboration with the business. The course is carried out in the form of four days per week of work in the company (a total of 8 hours/day) and one day per week for studies including literature review, and project thesis (individual). If necessary, the student and company can agree that more work will be done in some weeks, for less in others, in connection with special work-related activities.

Supervision can take place on digital surfaces.

Workload

750 hours of which approx. 100 hours for own studies.

Examination

Oral presentation of own internship including a description of tasks, academic position, literature that illuminates the tasks and the problem, reflection and learning points and the way forward. A total of 30 minutes. The subject is assessed on a pass/fail basis.

Examiners

External and internal examinator.

Conditions for resit/rescheduled exams

Continuation ecam a new oral presentation with questioning must be held.
