The student's learning outcomes after completing the course

Knowledge

The student has

  • acquired knowledge of intonation and pronunciation, and sound knowledge of central language structures in French.
  • knowledge of daily life, central traditions, habits and ways of thinking in French-speaking countries.

Skills

The student is able to

  • communicate with genuine intonation and pronunciation, using central language structures and a broad vocabulary. 
  • participate in prepared as well as spontaneous conversations about various topics.
  • understand fairly long and authentic oral and written texts of different genres and in different media.
  • use digital tools in his/her language learning.

General competence

The student

  • has acquired an understanding of his/her learning process.
  • is able to search and find relevant learning resources and apply these in his/her own learning.

Content

Communicative and intercultural language skills are developed through oral practices in authentic situations and using digital tools. A basic understanding of French as a foreign language is developed through didactic issues and through the relationship between objectives and activities and between individual learning and activities.

Forms of teaching and learning

The course is taught online and as web-based encounters. The learning platform is used for distribution of documents, central course material and assignments. Self-study is an important learning method, and so are web forums.

Workload

Approx. 420 hours

Coursework requirements - conditions for taking the exam

  • 16 short written assignments are to be handed in on a blog during the autumn and spring semesters.
  • The students must take part in at least 8 of 24 online meetings.

The coursework must be approved before a student may take the final exam.

Examination

Individual oral examination

An individual oral examination of approx. 30 minutes.

No aids permitted.

The candidate's oral understanding and production is tested. As a general rule the oral exam is conducted via an online learning platform. It is also possible to take an oral exam on campus.

The result is given on the A-F grading scale.

Examiners

External and internal examiner or two internal examiners.

Course evaluation

This course is evaluated twice each semester.

The results are dealt with in a group of lecturers and the local study quality committee.

Literature

Relevant texts and material are published on the learning platform.
