The course builds on knowledge gained from courses already taken in the programme.

Lecture Semester

The master's thesis is worth 30 ECTS credits and is equivalent to one semester's full-time workload (semester 4, spring). Part-time students are expected to take a little longer to complete their theses.

The student's learning outcomes after completing the course

KNOWLEDGE:
The students have a sound knowledge of disseminating language, culture and literature according to the needs and aptitudes of different learner groups.

SKILLS:
The students have very high competence in expression themselves in the target language and in disseminating language and culture.

GENERAL COMPETENCE:
The students have the ability to articulate an issue and conduct a study and have therefore enhanced the level of their general analytical competence.

Content

The assignment consists of writing a large individual written paper under supervision.
Scope: approx. 50 pages excluding reference lists and enclosures. Line spacing: 1.5.

Forms of teaching and learning

Students are encouraged to select a topic and problem statement for their thesis early on in the programme. This will enable them to make use of earlier project work, lectures, portfolio assignments, etc. to prepare for their thesis.

The students are appointed a supervisor associated with the area on which they have chosen to write their thesis.

Workload

Approx. 840 hours.

Examination

Master's Thesis
The thesis is assessed by an examination committee consisting of a supervisor/supervisors and an external examiner. The students are given an oral examination (approx. 45 minutes) during which they present and reflect on their thesis.
The grade awarded for the oral examination may adjust the grade awarded for the thesis by one grade up or down on the grading scale A?F.

Course evaluation

A mid-semester evaluation and continuous evaluations/final evaluation are conducted.

Literature

A syllabus of the student's own choice, subject to approval by the subject teacher.
