SFT11008 German: Oral German and Digital Tools (Autumn 2014)

The student's learning outcomes after completing the course

Knowledge

The students know how to use digital tools to train oral proficiency, individually as well as in interaction with other learners, and how such tools can be used to maintain and further develop oral proficiency after the study period. The students are acquainted with central features of German oral usage and how to use oral communication strategies depending on the situation.

Skills

The students have good active oral skills and are able to adapt them to selected communication contexts and needs and communicate with fairly genuine pronunciation and intonation. They understand oral German in various media.

General competence

The students know how to use digital tools in various communicative contexts.

Content

German oral proficiency is trained through interaction, text production and presentation, and text comprehension. Pronunciation, morphology, syntax and vocabulary are in focus and are studied in relation to different situations and genres.

Forms of teaching and learning

Exercises using digital, mostly Internet-based tools. Practices and assignments are submitted on the programme website (deutsch.hiof.no)

Coursework requirements - conditions for taking the exam

None.

Examination

Portfolio assessment

Four individual assignments are submitted during the autumn semester, documenting the students' activities as mentioned under 'Course outline'. The portfolio is assessed on the A-F scale.

All four assignments have to be submitted in the same semester. Thus, if students start the course but do not complete it, they will have to hand in new assignments if the course is resumed in a later semester.

At a resit or new assessment four new assignments have to be resubmitted.

In the case of a complaint all four assignments will be reassessed.

Course evaluation

The course is evaluated by the students twice each semester, and the evaluation is processed by the faculty committee for study quality.
