The course builds on SFT11507 German Language I.

The student's learning outcomes after completing the course
Knowledge
The students will have gained knowledge of German syntax and the terminology they need for the course reading.
Skills
The students will be able to account for main features of German grammar and use this skill in practice by communicating correctly and functionally in writing. They will also understand authentic German texts and how to teach their language competence.
General competence
The students will have gained knowledge of language structures and grammatical terminology, as well as knowledge of how to use and teach their language competence.
Content
The course has two parts:
a) Grammar II
b) Written proficiency
Grammar II:
Fundamental aspects of the German language system
Written proficiency:
The practical and theoretical basis from German language I is further developed into a more precise, nuanced and varied language use. Free written production is central. German comprehension is also practiced by translating German texts into Norwegian.
Forms of teaching and learning
Practical work with exercises and assignments.
Project work and group work based on cooperation using e.g. wiki technology.

Examination
Portfolio assessment and written exam
Portfolio:
With two individual contributions, primarily free written production. The portfolio is submitted by a given deadline.
Written exam (5 hours):
Grammar II includes a number of questions testing analytical skills and knowledge of terminology as well the students' skills in applying grammatical rules. Written proficiency includes one translation of unknown text from Norwegian into German and one from German into Norwegian. Assessment is base on the candidates' ability to write correctly, formulate well and show good text comprehension. No aids permitted.
One final mark is given based on the written exam and the portfolio. The written test is the primary basis for assessment and can be adjusted by the result of the portfolio (one step up or down) on the scale on the A-F grading scale.
In the case of re-examination both the portfolio and the written exam must be retaken.
In the case of complaint both the portfolio and the written exam will be reassessed.
