The student's learning outcomes after completing the course

The course aims to give students insight into aspects of language and culture that may influence communication between people from different cultures, e.g. non-verbal communication, language functions, context, prejudices, stereotypes, world view, values, norms and ethics. Further, the students will learn methods and principles of comparing one's own culture with other cultures, identifying potential causes of non-effective communication.

  • Basic social antropology
  • Other relevant issues within the field of intercultural communication
  • Theories for comparing cultures
  • Analysis of communication situations using different theories

Forms of teaching and learning

Lectures and group work. The course is taught in English.

None.

Coursework requirements - conditions for taking the exam

One oral presentation and one written assignment submitted and approved by given deadlines are obligatory requirements for the final exam.

Examination

Oral examination of approx. 30 minutes. Grading scale: A-F. No aids permittes.
