SFB13002 Meetings with German Culture (Spring 2009)

Prerequisites

The course requires basic knowledge of German. Students do not need to have an active knowledge of German, but those who enlist must be able to understand German - both the daily German language, and, in addition, to be able to follow our lectures in German.

Autumn or Spring.

Content

The course is base on individual study with supervision. Students choose their topic of study based on their interest in the issue. One topic is chosen and approved by the course instructor. The topic may be related to the taught courses in the 60 or 90 credit modules (one-year course and extension course) but may also be chosen among issues related to the German-speaking countries as long as it has an intercultural or comparative focus.

Forms of teaching and learning

Independent, supervised project work.

The course builds on organised project work - and we offer flexible work hours. Together with their supervisors students decide on when to discuss their work. This course runs independently of traditional semesters.

Examination

Portfolio assessment. The portfolio contributions may be written in German or Norwegian, or in other languages if approved by the course instructor. The portfolio should contain 10 to 15 pages of text exclusive of illustrations. Other media than the portfolio may also be approved. Facilitation is offered throughout the course. Assessment is based on the student's knowledge, independence and presentation. The result is given on the A - F grading scale.

Literature

Students hand in a reference list of literature used in ther writing. The list is to be submitted with the portfolio.
