Prerequisites

Students must have achieved at least 120 ECTS credits before they may commence work on the bachelor's thesis.

Exceptions to this rule may be granted by the Head of studies subject to application.

The student's learning outcomes after completing the course

Knowledge

On completion of the course, the student:

  • can explain how projects are run and how progression is ensured
  • can give an account of the different phases in a development project and of their importance
  • has sound knowledge of the project's disciplinary topics

Skills

On completion of the course, the student can:

  • prepare a project plan and a work plan
  • prepare a pilot project report and final report
  • conduct follow-up meetings with the client

General competence

On completion of the course, the student:

  • knows about conducting a project
  • can present the project to specialists and other stakeholders

Content

The project content must essentially be based on the skills and knowledge the students have gained so far in the bachelor programme, but will also require students to learn new methods and tools for resolving the assignment.

A bachelor project may be conducted internally or externally.

Students will also learn about project work, project leadership and management, as well as about reporting and documentation.

Forms of teaching and learning

Project implementation and group work.

Workload

No regular lectures, but each student is expected to work a minimum of 500 hours during the bachelor project.

Coursework requirements - conditions for taking the exam

Write a pilot project report and a midway report.

The coursework requirements must be approved before students may sit the exam.

Examination

Group project

Grades are awarded on the basis of an overall assessment of the project report and results, other project documentation, and project presentation. Individual grades awarded.

Grading scale from A to F.

In the case of resit exams or rescheduled exams, new groups must be formed and the project content agreed with the main project coordinator.

Plagiarism control/ cheating
Bachelor's theses is subject to electronic plagiarism control. Exam papers that are partly or entirely identical will not be approved and will be regarded as cheating. For further information please see Exam regulations for Østfold University College.

Literature is selected individually and depends on the project.
