The student's learning outcomes after completing the course

Knowledge based learning outcome

The student will acquire knowlege about general principles concerning mobile technology, mobile HCI, location and map based systems, privacy, context sensitive systems, and the mobile market. The student will also be familiar with central publishing channels for academic discourse related to these themes.

 

Skill based learning outcome

The student will be able to carry out a project where a mobile application, concept or interaction aspect is developed from idea to prototype. This includes user oriented design with special attention to the difference between stationary, PC-based systems and mobile applications. The student will have necessarily skills to develop a prototype on the Android platform.


General compentence

The student will acquire experince in report writing.  The report describes the process of a prototype project, and follows a research paper template with an clear problem statement or focus area. Use of references to existing discourse and related work will be emphasized.

Content

The course has a theoretical foundation and a practical approach. The scientific content is taught through lectures and practical project work, including presentations and reviews of the students' own work. The content of the course will be closely linked to R&D work performed in the Faculty's interdisciplinary "Mobile Applications Group" (MAG).

Coursework requirements - conditions for taking the exam

Depending on the number of attendees, the students shall work individually or in groups (max 3 students per group) with a project that runs throughout the semester. The students must do presentations of their project as well as of relevant articles.

This must be approved before the final exam.

Examination

Depending on the coursework, the assessment is based on the individual or group project report together with a presentation of the project. Groups will be given a shared grade. Students may be selected for an additional oral exam.

Grading scale A - F.

In case of Fail, the deliveries of a new project is specified by the lecturer.

Course evaluation

This course is evaluated by a

  • Mid-term evaluation (voluntary)
  • End evaluation (compulsory)

The lecturer compiles a report based on the evaluation forms filled in by the students and his/her own experience with the course. The report is the discussed by the study quality committee of the faculty of Computer Sciences.
