Østfold University College in Halden has expanded the area for bike parking and put up a designated building near the main entrance where bikes can be racked under cover.

Bike loan through the library

The electric bikes can be borrowed through the university college library’s loan system, and are free in the same way as books and other material.

The time period for the loan is one day, with the possibility of renewing it online in the same way as for books.

Electronic form, containing more information about the loan agreement, must be filled out before you loan a bike for the first time.

The benefits of an electric bike:

1. You can cycle in your normal clothes
2. You will not get sweaty
3. A lot cheaper than a car
4. Easy to commute
5. You will bike more
6. Easy to recharge
7.You won’t get stuck in traffic
8. Great for your health and the environment
9. Range of fifty to eighty kilometres
10. You will cycle with a smile on your face!

A new environmental initiative

One of the university college’s aims with the new electric bike scheme is to try to tie students closer to Halden and what the town has to offer by providing an environmentally friendly, flexible and accessible mode of transport between the centre and the university college campus and student accommodation.

By mapping the travel habits of students living at Remmen, we see for instance that a considerable number of students use their own car to drive short distances and that public transport does not meet the students’ needs.

The project is financed with funds from Klimasats through the Klima Østfold and Interreg Norge-Sverige project Fossilfri2013 (25 municipalities in Østfold and Follo and 14 in Fyrbodal), where Østfold County Authority will be responsible for operation and maintenance through an agreement with Pedalen/The Church City Mission during the next three years.

The university college will see to the administration of loans, charging facilities in the library, making room for parking indoors and organisation of the scheme.
