Connections to the Curriculum in English: This humorous twist of fairy tales including elements from many classic fairy tales contributes to students’ reading pleasure and develop their awareness of fairy tales as international literature. In addition, this book can be used as a model text to support students in their writing of stories.

Summary: This book is a funny twist of the traditional fairy tale “Jack and the Beanstalk”.  Jack takes the job as a paperboy so that he and his mother can buy some food. He delivers “Fairytale News” to a number of characters known from different traditional fairy tales like The three bears, Goldilocks and Little Red Riding Hood. This mixture of fairy tales will encourage students to recognize elements from well-known stories. There is also a full-sized issue of “The Fairytale News” folded into a pocket at the back of the book. Here, the headline reads: “Big Bad Wolf Arrested in Nightdress.”
