Summary: This is a traditional Scottish folk tale about the selkie, a seal who can become human. Fergus is the son of a poor fisherman; his mother is dead and he misses her so much. He spends time alone on the beach; one day, he discovers a piece of smooth fur. Fergus runs away with the fur and does not see the girl on the beach searching for the seal fur. She is a selkie, half human, half seal. The girl finds Fergus in his house and asks for the fur; they become friends and play together. Will Fergus give the selkie girl her seal fur back so that she can return to the sea? The illustrations are colourful and expressive.
