Connections to the Curriculum in English:  This book supports the students in gaining insight into environmental issues and linking the past to the present. Furthermore, it is a book of friendship and the importance of caring about the planet.

Summary:   One stormy night, a ship goes down, and a boy is washed up on a desert island. However, he is not alone; he meets Hom who is a peace-loving little creature from the past, the last of his kind. They become the best of friends and they learn a lot from each other. Soon, a rescue ship appears, but   the boy decides not to go with it, because he is afraid human   beings of today will harm Hom. Hom is short for hominid and is a reminder of our connections to    the past.
