Teaching and meeting online

What to use when?

Meetings

Employees can hold meetings in Microsoft Teams and Zoom. Appointment for meeting is made using Microsoft Outlook.

Students can hold meetings in Microsoft Teams and Zoom. Appointment for meeting is made using Microsoft Office or from the app.

Microsoft Teams is also well suited for larger groups, which need to co-write and share documents and store chat.

Zoom is great for larger groups. Zoom does not have functionality such as coauthoring/real-time collaboration, document sharing or chat storage.

Teaching

We distinguish between synchronous (real-time) and asynchronous (pre-recorded) teaching.

For synchronous teaching we recommend Zoom. For smaller student groups Microsoft Teams can be used as well.

For asyncronous teaching we recommend Canvas Studio. Powerpoint with talking head can be used as well. In addition, on both campuses there is a recording studio close to the Learning Support Center ( Læringsstøttesenteret ).

Oral examination

Zoom is recommended for oral examination.

Zoom

Østfold University College offers Zoom to all students and all employees. We use Zoom for online teaching, co-creating and collaborating in groups, courses, oral assignments, oral exams and meetings.

Semester start 2020

Drop-in sessions are held in Zoom every day at 12:00 - 1:00 pm and 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm Friday Aug 7 to Friday Aug 14. Her you can join and test your technical equipment, to be prepared for participating in Zoom online classes.

Microsoft Teams

Microsoft Teams is a collaboration platform that can be used for online meetings, co-creating and collaborating in groups, teaching of smaller groups of students, remote assistance, file sharing and chat. It is available for students, employees and external users.

Canvas Studio

Canvas Studio is a video system integrated in Canvas. It gives students and teachers the opportunity to upload videos and discuss / comment on the content of the video.

You can post comments at certain parts in a video in Studio. The system can also be used as a submission method, when it is necessary for students to submit video as a task submission.

In addition, it is easy for students and teachers to create their own screencasts using Studio. It is also suitable for small instructional videos, short presentations etc.
The system also has a simple video editing option.

Start using the program by following the instructions in Canvas. Optionally attend courses organized by Læringsstøttesenteret.

Powerpoint with Talking Head

From version 2019, Powerpoint has the ability to record what you do on your computer, and you can also insert the talking head into the corner of the video you produce.

Recording studio

Both in Halden and Fredrikstad, the Learning Support Center ( Læringsstøttesenteret ) has a recording studio that can be booked by employees from Outlook Calendar. Add the room to your room list in Outlook to easily check if the room is free or busy. For opening hours, information, etc., see the website of the Learning Support Center ( Læringsstøttesenteret ) or contact the Section for Teaching and Learning (PULS).

Mobile Connect hearing assistance

There are several rooms on both the Fredrikstad and Halden campuses that have Sennheiser MobileConnect for streaming microphone audio to mobile phones.
