3 tips for better literature searching

1. Take some time to think about what you are going to search for

Find synonyms and English translations. Have you already read about the topic in a book or an article? Use what you have read, e.g. in the syllabus literature, to get more tips for words that can describe the topic.

2. Are you finding too many results?

  • Use more words in your search. Several search words at the same time will yield fewer results.
  • Use quotation marks "" when you are searching for a phrase, e.g. "newly qualified teachers" or "high blood pressure".
  • Limit your search to the newest publications.

3. Are you finding too few results?

  • Check your spelling. Correct spelling is necessary in both Norwegian and English.
  • Perhaps you are searching in the wrong place? Another database may provide more hits on the topic you are searching for.
  • Enter an asterisk* at the end of a word to search for all possible endings of that word (truncation). A search for child* will return results on child, children, children's, childhood etc.
  • Use fewer words in your search. Several search Several search words at the same time will return fewer hits.
