The Research Group for Cyber-physical systems (CPSForsk) looks at systems where it is essential to observe and manage physical things. Therefore, we investigate digitalization: robots, smart houses, energy efficiency, and modern production technology. In our research we include modeling, real time systems, networks, cloud services and Internet-of-Things.

The research group focuses on developing methods, tools, and techniques to increase participation in both professional and end-user design practices in the digital society. We aim to further the agenda of making design accessible to everyone, by empowering people with tools to actively engage in and contribute to co-creative practices in the digital society. Currently, the group is involved in projects in several domains, health, education, engineering, and media, providing a diverse research environment for the group members.

DeveLeP is an interdisciplinary research group with a broad focus on topics related to neurodevelopmental disorders, learning and psychological processes. The research group is led by Professor Anders Nordahl-Hansen together with Professor Andrea Jackowski and Associate Professor Anders Dechsling, all of whom are employed at the Special Education section at Østfold University College. Special Education constitutes a significant part of the research group's profile, but the group's composition, where all the college's faculties are represented, has a number of projects that focus on fields such as psychology, psychiatry, e-health research, social education, and Human-Computer Interaction

Research in Digital Education (RIDE) is an interdisciplinary research group that consists of researchers and Ph.D. students with a range of different professional backgrounds. The group aims to explore children's, young people's and adults' use of technology in teaching and learning. RIDE has a key role within Østfold University College's strategic research initiative The Digital Society and The Østfold AI Hub.
